Butterfly Days
|
Weekends in September, Greenway Blooming Centre - 2000 Shantz Station Road – Breslau. Join us as we tag and release beautiful, live Monarch butterflies on their journey of 2500 miles to their winter home in Mexico. This event has been rated by the New York Times as one of the ten best butterfly events in North America. It is an amazing experience. In conjunction with the Monarch Watch research program at the University of Kansas, Monarchs are tagged, released, and monitored to discover their migration flying patterns. One can tag and release one’s own butterfly and, following a native legend, make a wish! Greenway’s ‘’Butterfly Days’’ has raised more than $10,000 for Juvenile Diabetes. Butterfly eggs are also sold to the University of Toronto and caterpillars to schools and parents. To watch a butterfly emerge from the chrysalis is surely one of the great miracles of nature. Greenway is reaching out to try to counter the loss of such experience, as is often the case in modern urbanized society. Open - June 14 to October 17: Monday-Friday 8am-6pm; Saturday 8am-5pm; Sunday 10am-5pm. Don’t forget Greenway’s other site - Highlight Blooming Centre in Monkton, Ontario. Highlight Blooming Centre (519.347.2606) is 2km north of Monkton and 1km east on North Perth Line 60. For more information, please call Greenway Blooming Centre 519.648.2328
