Waterloo Marathon and Ed Whitlock Half Marathon
Sunday, April 29, 8am - 3pm, Bechtel Park 185 Bridge St. W. , Waterloo. 20th Annual Waterloo Marathon and Ed Whitlock Half Marathon. The course starts and finishes at Bechtel Park in Waterloo, and winds through beautiful rural Mennonite country. This is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Battle of York Weekend
April 28, 10am - 5pm, Fort York National Historic Site - 250 Fort York Blvd. Honour the 205th anniversary of the Battle of York fought on April 27, 1813. The fort comes alive with musket firing demonstrations, Georgian cooking in the Officers' Quarters kitchen, site tours and period animation. Kids can try ‘‘falling-in’‘ for 1812-era soldiering drill! Saturday, April 28, 11am - Walking In Their Footsteps - Free walking tour - Meet outside of the Palais Royale (1601 Lakeshore Blvd. west). Tread the ground of the U.S. attackers and York defenders as you follow the guided tour Walking in Their Footsteps. This 1.5 hour walking tour will trace the course and events of the battle which took place on April 27, 1813. It will be a continuous walk, led by staff and volunteers, with five stops along the way. At each of these stops, a speaker will give a 10 minute presentation relating to the details of the battle. Cost: Child $5.30; Youth $7.10; Adult $12.40; Senior $8.85.
